RESPONSE TO THE green Paper "MODERNISING THE PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS DIRECTIVE"

NEMIR Response to the European Commission Green Paper "Modernising the professional qualifications directive" was sent to the Commission on 20th of september 2011.

Whilst NEMIR understands that the principle of the directive is freedom of movement for professionals, we do not consider that checking qualifications and compliance with other conditions of health professionals is burdensome or a waste of time regarding the major stakes for the public health.

We think that the core problem regarding the fluidity of the mobility of the professional is not how the competent authorities share responsibilities in the recognition process but rather how we can increase trust in the validation of national training requirements of the directive 2005/36/EC.

Therefore, NEMIR insists in the response on concrete solutions to adress this issue (see our answer to question 17).

Launched early 2009 by a joint initiative of the French Chamber of Midwives (Ordre National des sages-femmes) and the NMC (UK), the network is an informal forum of cooperation which groups the regulators of the midwifery profession in European countries. The aim of such a network is to improve the mutual understanding and exchange of best practices between regulators and competent authorities and to co-ordinate joint communications with EU decision makers on issues of mutual concern, especially in regard to EU legislation.
